Veritas announced the appointment of Damian Wilk as the new Senior Regional Director for the Middle East, based at the regional head office in Dubai, UAE. In his new role, Wilk will head the new leadership team and is responsible for the strategic development of the business in the Middle East, where the company aims to expand its operations across the enterprise market.
Prior to joining Veritas, he held Regional Director roles with Good Technology and BlackBerry, responsible for the UK and Middle East region. He spent his career in the technology sector, with experience in roles including engineering, sales, regional management, and also as managing director.
Earlier this year the Veritas Global Databerg Report, uncovered new findings regarding three major types of data stored by organisations – business critical, redundant, obsolete, trivial ROT; and dark data – unidentified and unclassified data which could be an asset, threat or liability.
The research discovered that companies in the UAE have one of the highest rates in EMEA of ROT stored in their corporate networks. The study revealed that the majority of companies 69% in the UAE have not yet implemented a strategy to understand their dark data or to evaluate their business value. It revealed that a typical UAE organisation reports dark data rates of 49%, ROT levels of 43%, leaving just 8% of identifiable business critical data.

Veritas Technologies, a vendor in information management, has announced new leadership appointments for the Middle East, where it plans to expand its enterprise business and grow operations and the team at its new regional offices in Dubai, over the next three years. The expansion is in response to growing demand from customers in the region for a data management platform that provides greater insights into data and protection of what Veritas describes as an organisation’s digital currency.
