Why is Chile a leader in the field of AI?

Chile is at the epicenter of the technological revolution in Latin America, setting the pace in the development and application of Artificial Intelligence (AI). According to the Latin American Artificial Intelligence Index (ILIA), our country stands out as a regional leader in this field, thanks to its robust digital infrastructure, investment in tech talent and progressive vision in promoting innovation.

The recent report, prepared by Chile’s National Center for Artificial Intelligence (CENIA) in collaboration with the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), highlights the crucial role the country plays in advancing AI in the region. However, it also points out areas of opportunity that could further boost the growth of this sector.

One of the fundamental pillars highlighted in the study is Chile’s digital talent. Although the country has managed to retain most of its human capital in the technology field, there is still room to improve disruptive technological skills related to AI. It is imperative to continue promoting training in emerging technologies to ensure a constant flow of qualified talent.

Regional and international collaboration emerges as another essential aspect for the continued success of AI in Latin America. Although Chile leads in terms of technological infrastructure, the report emphasizes the need to strengthen synergies among Latin American countries and foster collaboration with other regions of the world. Integration and co-operation are key to fully leveraging investment and growth opportunities in this field.
